Starting late in February and well into April, Derek guides the Cowlitz River for the highly productive hatchery steelhead run. These incredible Steelhead average 10-18 lbs with fish over 20 lbs every year! This fishery is action packed and very exciting with lots of quality Steelhead caught every day. The later part of April through the month of May is Spring Chinook Season! These prized fish are considered the best tasting Salmon to ever hit a dinner plate. Averaging 12-23 lbs these fish are extremely strong and put up an incredible fight! June first brings Derek Anderson home to the Skykomish River, which he starting fishing in 1980. This is the opener for Summer Steelhead and Summer Chinook on one of the most productive Puget Sound Rivers around. Just a short drive from Seattle it remains a staple fishery for Derek’s clientele. Fishing out of the 23 foot jet boat is a great way to spend a quality day on the Skykomish River catching some very nice Summer King Salmon and acrobatic Summer Steelhead. The productive technique used to catch these great fish is a hands on approach while you hold the rod, feel the bite and set the hook! In July Derek moves his Steelhead fishing adventures to the Cowlitz River after the season ends on the Skykomish River. The fishing is outstanding with limits or near limits of Steelhead caught each day on ultra-light tackle. There is nothing better than holding onto a G-Loomis Rod while watching the sunshine light up that chrome Steelhead as he dances across the surface of the water!Cowlitz River Salmon
Starting in mid-August Derek is fishing for trophy King Salmon near Astoria Oregon on the Columbia River. This fishery is world renowned for its fantastic King and Coho Salmon returns which number in the hundreds of thousands of fish returning year after year. The prized fish is the Up River Bright King Salmon which averages 20-40lbs with 50 plus lb. fish caught each year. September brings the cool crisp mornings that turn the leaves a deep burnt orange color and floods Washington’s rivers with Fall Chinook and Coho Salmon! Screamin’ Reels runs fishing adventures for Fall Salmon on the Snohomish and Cowlitz Rivers a with ultra-light tackle. Returning home from the Snake River Steelhead adventures, Screamin’ Reels Guide Service continues the quest for three of the five Salmon Species. Silver Salmon and Chum Salmon trips on the Snohomish River are very productive with lots of action and great fishing close to Seattle and the Puget Sound. Clients also have the choice to fish in South West Washington on the Cowlitz and Lewis Rivers for the late run of Coho and King Salmon which extends into early December.King Salmon
In the Month of December, Derek takes some time off with his wife and two wonderful girls for some much needed family time. He also takes clients on some of Puget Sound’s local rivers like the Skykomish River, Snoqualmie River and also runs trips on the Cowlitz River if there happens to be a productive early hatchery Steelhead run.
